Certificate Requirement Sheets
Accepted Comparable Out-Of-State Exams
This is the current version of a draft of the lists of comparable out of state exams to waive the AEPA exams. It supersedes any previous lists. It will be updated periodically as new information is obtained.
If the comparable out of state exams are more than 7 years old, a letter must accompany the score report and verify full time teaching experience for 5 out of the 7 years prior to use of the test for a certification service.
Comparable out of state exams can be used for Provisional certificates, Administrative certificates, approved areas, and endorsements that require or allow the use of Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA) exams. The out of state exam must be the comparable one for the service requested.
NO AEPA EXAM WILL BE WAIVED WITHOUT THE OFFICIAL SCORE REPORT SHOWING A PASSING SCORE, AND THE LETTER OF EXPERIENCE IF REQUIRED.
Comparable out of state exams can also be used for Arizona Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status.
The state of Montana does not have any testing required at this time for certification and no comparable exam list.
The following states do not have any / or only 1 comparable PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE (PK): California, Massachusetts, Montana, Colorado (has only the PK exam for their Elementary certificate), Michigan (has only the PK exam for their Early Childhood certificate)
National Teacher Exams (NTE)
