2. Results from the 2007 Arizona Youth Risk Behavior Survey
Arizona high school students were surveyed regarding violence, suicide, alcohol,
tobacco, other drugs, sexual risks, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, body
image, diet and physical activity. This survey is used to assess and monitor
behaviors that place high school students at increased risk for premature morbidity
and morality.
The purpose of this report is to describe the safety of public schools in Arizona.
The first step in developing and maintaining safe schools is for educational stakeholders
to be knowledgeable about the variety, severity, and scope of violent and serious
behaviors occurring at school.
